Shannon Smith was low point qualifier winning her first heat and finishing 2nd in her second heat putting her on the pole for the 50 lap Hamlin National.
The perfectly prepared track allowed only 2 minor cautions within the 1st 10 laps, the rest went clean and green till the end.
AWESOME job by all 32 competitors who competed in this feature!
Shannon Smith took home a COOL $1,000.00 as well as lap money and other prizes for the feature win!!

Shannon Smith Takes The Checkers At Lindas!
After a few dismal weeks with equipment failure - Shannon Smith in the S&S Speedways #23 takes the checkered flag in dominating fashion winning her first race at this speedway. Shannon also took the checkers in first in her heat. This gives her 5 Feature wins on the year to date including an awesome drive this past Saturday at Hamlin Speedway coming from 10th starting position to take he lead with 3 to go, over her teamate Dale Kober who finished 2nd.

August 30, 2008 – Hamlin Speedway – Slingshots
August 30, 2008: S&S SPEEDWAYS – INDOOR GO-KARTS IN THE POCONO’S sponsored the “Labor Day Super Slinger Nationals, $500 to win!”, a full night of action packed racing, and a special 270cc micro “Wingless” event at Hamlin Speedway!
The headliner “SUPER! Slinger Nationals, $500 to win!” brought a strong 20-car field to Hamlin to do battle for the title and the $500 bucks! The “Iceman” Marc Daniels, driving the Whitaker owned 13x slingshot, earned pole position in the A-Main. Racing a dual heat format – Daniels achieved the lowest point total with the #51 of Carl Bittenbender on the outside. The 45-lap feature challenged even the “Iceman” as Bittenbender put on the heat in 2nd, until engine failure hit. Coming from the 20th starting spot, earning Hard Charger for the event and setting fast time with a 14.244, was the #75jr of Billy “The Dream” Weaver finishing 2nd! A late race challenge from Weaver made for an exciting finish! Bringing home 3rd was the #04 of Bill VanInwegen Sr. with the #o5 of John Pantis in 4th, coming from the 11th starting spot. Earning a solid 5th place finish was the #14 of Joey Funk with the #87 of Bob Clark in 6th. Rounding out the top 10 was the #859 of PJ Dempsey in 7th, #189 of Duane White in 8th, #96 of Dale Reed in 9th (coming from 17th), and the #53 of Joe Funk Jr. in 10th. Lap sponsorship money of $225 was disbursed throughout the field with a $20 Hard Charger bonus going to the #75jr of Billy Weaver! The “Iceman” Marc Daniels was crowned “Super Slinger National Champion” in victory circle and awarded $500! Thank you to all the fans, friends, and businesses that contributed to the lap sponsorship fund!

The fiercest level of competition exists in the Regular Slingshot division at Hamlin Speedway! With a handicap in place of 20+ cars – the weekly racing is always entertaining! And this week’s event wasn’t any different! With a 23-car field – the #37 of Tony Frable was on the pole with the #5s of Dale Kober on the outside. Kober jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag to have immediate challenge from #19 Emily VanInwegen. Coming from 6th – the #97 of Jill Long also applied pressure with the #23 of Shannon Smith in tow, up from the 10th spot. In the heat of the battle was the #23c of Billy Clark, the #57 of Mark Berkenstock, and #14t of Jeff Cosgrove. The #23 of Shannon Smith took the lead from Kober on lap 22 to take her 2nd checkered flag at Hamlin Speedway in 2008! Smith also set the fast time of the season with a 14.019. Coming home 2nd was the #5s of Dale Kober, 3rd went to #23c of Billy Clark, with the #97 of Jill Long in 4th, and #19 of Emily VanInwegen in 5th. The #57 of Mark Berkenstock finished 6th with the #14t of Jeff Cosgrove in 7th and the #920 of Chad Winowich in 8th.

The Junior Slingshot division found the return of the #97j Justin Brewster to victory circle, winning his first 2 weeks prior! Brewster started on the pole and set fast time of 14.662. Finishing 2nd was the #27 of Jacob Hendershot with the #6 of Colin White in 3rd. Finishing 4th was the #33 of Troy Langendoerfer with the #15 of Cait Chambers in 5th.
