Hamlin 5/3 MA Tour - Press Release

May 3, 2008 – Hamlin Speedway – Slingshot & 270cc Micro Sprint Results:

May 3, 2008 – For the second week in a row – the new motto “Five Wide on the Outside” was the theme for the “Briggs & Stratton Mid-Atlantic Tour” for the Regular Slingshots! Wow what a night of racing! With a continuous threat of rain and storms arriving after midnight – the show set fast time and was completed before 10pm! The night was cold, damp, and dreary but the racing was HOT!

The Regular Slingshots brought 32 of the most talented slingshot drivers going for the gold! The double heat format with pill draw determines the feature lineup. The 6 heats produced 6 different winners with side-by-side racing throughout the field. The newly widened and slightly banked 1/5th mile oval allowed some fantastic 3 and sometimes 4-wide racing all night long! The track conditions permitted starting ALL 32 slingshots in the feature! Starting on the pole and leading to the checkered flag was the #23b of Billy VanInwegen Jr. but not without challenge from the #14t of Jeff Cosgrove who finished only .006 seconds behind at the line! Billy V also set the fastest lap time with a 14.918. With serious racing going on at every turn – the #1A of Anthony Perrego finished 3rd with the #04 of Bill VanInwegen in 4th. A race long battle between father and daughter, #19 Emily V, ended with a spin in turn 3 going to the checkered flag. Coming across the line in 5th was the #5s of Dale Kober with the #87 of Marc Daniels in 6th. Racing the Clark’s Garage #87 – Daniels set the second fastest time in the slingshot division with a 14.993. Rounding out the top 10 was the #551 of Simon Egan in 7th, #72 of Jim Houseworth in 8th, with #59 of Cody Kline in 9th, and #97 of Jill Long in 10th.
Heat Winners: #23 Shannon Smith, #23b Billy VanInwegen Jr., #29r Kyle Rode, #04 Bill VanInwegen Sr., #26 Mackenzie Brink, #7L Paul Lotier.
Hard Charger: #59 Cody Kline

The 270cc Micro Sprints saw the #94 of Matt Mountz earning his 1st feature win in the 270cc division with authority! Mountz had the fastest lap time of 12.014 for an average speed of 59.93 around the 1/5th clay oval. Coming home 2nd was the strong runner #83 Nunzi Allegrucci with the consistent runner of the #10 Mark Gilmore in 3rd. Finishing 4th was the #8s of Pete Skias and 5th went to #88 Nick Skias who earned the Hard Charger coming from the 12th starting spot. The 6th finisher was the #92 of Joe Smith and 7th went to the #7 of Rick Casario.

Total Cars = 17

The Junior Slingshots, with a strong 11-car field, saw the #27 of Jacob Hendershot taking the checkered flag ahead of the #12 of Mikey Horton. Hendershot also set the fastest lap time with a 15.332. Coming home 3rd was the #2 of Brittany Tresch and 4th went to #93 Jason West. Rounding out the top 5 was the #15 of Cait Chambers. The top novice junior was the #01 of Shelby Ogozaly finishing a strong 6th place.
Heat Winner: #27 Jacob Hendershot
Total Cars = 11

The Super! Slingers saw the #51 of Carl Bittenbender lead from the drop of the green to the checkered flag for his first ever win at Hamlin Speedway! Coming in 2nd was the #5s of Dale Kober, 3rd went to #33 John Wesp, 4th to #87 Bob Clark, and 5th went to #39 of Roger Collins.
