HAMLIN 7/26 & Next Wk: SPEEDWEEK & Nascar Crew!

July 26, 2008 – Hamlin Speedway - Slingshot - Micro Results:

July 26, 2008: ED SMITH EXCAVATING sponsored an exciting night of racing at Hamlin Speedway! With the Big Car Division count of 72 competitors – the racing was action-packed!

With a 28-car field of Regular Slingshots – a rookie of the division earned his 2nd feature win of 2008! The #59 of CODY KLINE, coming out of the go-kart ranks in 2008, drove his way to the front of the pack from the 9th starting spot to take his 2nd feature win of 2008! Starting on the pole was the #1 of Billy Weaver with the #12D of Dana Smith (the birthday girl!) on the outside. Weaver jumped out into a commanding lead until a caution flew, negating his lead. The #26 of Mackenzie Brink challenged Weaver and took over the lead. An unfortunate tangle between the #13x of Ben Whitaker and Brink (the leader) forced both cars to the back of the 28-car pack. Kline was waiting in the wings and took over the lead to take the checkered flag. Patience paid off for Kline earning his 2nd feature win in his Rookie Season! The track conditions were the best ever, fast, and highly competitive! Taking home 2nd from the 5th starting spot was the #5s of Dale Kober, 3rd went to the #1 of Billy Weaver, 4th to the #23c of Billy Clark, and 5th to the #1r of Kyle Rohner. Silently working his way through the field from the 18th starting spot to finish 6th was the #23b of Billy VanInwegen Jr. earning the Hard Charger of the event.

With a 17-car field - the #28 of ERIC BODINE, driving the Jim Widdoss owned machine, cruised his way to another victory win on Saturday night! His greatest challenge came from the #10 of Mark Gilmore coming from the 5th starting spot to finish 2nd. Returning to competition was the #5 of Brian Kishbaugh, the 2007 Track Champion, who raced to a 3rd place finish from the 9th starting spot! Kishbaugh earned the Hard Charger of the event. Coming home 4th was the #88 of Nick Skias with the #83 of Nunzi Allegrucci finishing 5th. Rounding out the top 10 were the #94 of Matt Mountz in 6th, #24 of Bill Darcy in 7th, #5w of Joe Smith in 8th, #7r of Aaron Rinehimer in 9th, with the #11 of Brian Gilmore in 10th.

With a 12-car field in the Junior Slingshots - a brand new feature winner was crowned in victory lane! In his rookie season - the #6 of COLIN WHITE raced his way across the finish line taking the win! Challenging for the lead – the #27 of Jacob Hendershot was making a move on the final lap for the lead only to get caught up in the tires and spin. Jacob was going for the win but Colin came out ahead! Coming home 2nd was the #14 of Ryan Snyder with the #15 of Cait Chambers in 3rd. Coming from the 7th starting spot – the #33 of Troy Langendoerfer finished 4th with the #51b of Molly Chambers in 5th. Rounding out the top 10 were the #97j of Justin Brewster in 6th, the #01 of Shelby Ogozaly in 7th, #46 Matthew Gaughan in 8th, the #27 Jacob Hendershot in 9th (following spin), and the #88 of Austin Barucky in 10th.

The SUPER! Slingers feature found the #5 of PAUL ENNES in victory lane charging from the 3rd starting spot! Finishing 2nd was the #5s of Dale Kober with the #51 of Carl Bittenbender in 3rd. Last week’s feature winner, the #707 of Charlie Bodine, earned a 4th place finish with the #04 of Bill VanInwegen Sr. taking home 5th.

July 5, 2008: The “Firecracker 100” and the 270cc Micro Sprint Twin 20s brought an explosive show for the packed grandstands of racing fans to Hamlin Speedway! Stormy weather surrounded the area, for the second week in a row, but did not stop the racing action!Sponsored by Ron Brown Hauling - The “Firecracker 100, $1500 to win” event brought 34 hungry drivers to race double heats, a Dash for Cash, and a 100 lap feature for a grand total of nearly 150 laps of wheel to wheel racing!After 6-heats in the books earning the pole starting position was the #23 of Shannon Smith with the #1r of Kyle Rohner on the outside. At the drop of the green – the Pink #23 took the lead never to look back, setting fast time of 14.213, but had continuous challenge from the #1r of Rohner. Serious racing battles in the top 10 between #13x of Ben Whitaker, up from the 13th starting spot to 3rd, #112 of Nunzi Allegrucci in 4th, #37 of Nate Christman (broke), #23c of Bill Clark to 5th from the 20th starting spot, and #32 of Brett Bieber from the 19th starting spot to 6th at the checkered flag! Mechanical problems struck the #37 of Christman while racing in the top 5 and #87 of Steven Intravaia, invading with the Clark Garage sponsored car. At the end of the 100 laps the Dash for Cash winner of the #04 of Bill VanInwegen Sr. finished 7th with the #327 of Zach O’Connell in 8th, #12 of Marc Daniels in 9th, and the #5s of Dale Kober in 10th from the 21st starting spot. The 6 heats were won by 6 different drivers including the invader of Rodney Kistler in the #551 from the Legends division! The winner #23 Shannon Smith was awarded for the “Firecracker 100” $1500 to win plus lap sponsor money totaling $1535! A total of $500 of lap sponsorship money was given out throughout the field, lottery style, to spread the monies to all drivers! Thanks to all lap sponsors for this benefit!
